LastPass

A password manager tool. Safely store and autofill passwords, generate complex passwords and securely share passwords with others.

Key features

  • Stores passwords in an encrypted vault, making it difficult for unauthorised users to access them.
  • Automatically fill in your login credentials, reducing time spent fetching account details.
  • Generate strong, random passwords for your accounts, removing the need for creating one yourself.
  • LastPass can be protected with multifactor authentication, requiring a second factor of authentication in order to access your LastPass account.
  • Securely share passwords with individuals or groups, making it easier to manage shared account access.
  • Tracks if you've reused passwords across your accounts and notifies you to take action.
  • LastPass offers a browser extension to make access to your vault easier.

Access instructions

  • Request a LastPass account by contacting IT Services. Instructions will be provided on how to set up the account and enable 2FA.
  • For the best experience, we recommend the LastPass browser extension.
  • Once the extension is installed, log in with your University email in username format (eg abc123@york.ac.uk) and your master password.
  • If your account was created before October 2024, you may need to log in with your University email address in the name-based format (eg jane.doe@york.ac.uk).
